The CRC’s Safe Church Ministry website states: “We can begin to prevent abuse by starting at an early age to teach our children respect for themselves and for one another; and by helping them learn what to do in situations that feel unsafe. As our children grow up it’s important for the church to be a strong voice encouraging a healthy view of sexuality and promoting respectful relationships that honor our Lord.”

The website goes on to share a number of resources that are helpful for teaching. Visit the Safe Church Ministry website to learn more about:

  • Circle of Grace, a curriculum that equips children and youth to participate in a safe environment for themselves and others. A few lessons for each age group K-12 can be used alongside your church school curriculum to help build a safe community that respects the sacredness of relationships and prevents abuse.
     
  • Drivers Training for Dating: How do we teach our teens about healthy relationships in a culture where sex has been reduced from a God-given intimate life-union to an activity only slightly more special than eating pizza? This Resource written by Gayla Postma and Rev. William Veenstra can help.
     
  • Questions from the Pickle Jar  is a way to begin talking with young adults about healthy sexuality using questions from the pickle jar (available from Faith Alive)
     
  • Safe Keeping is an abuse prevention curriculum that includes lessons for grades K-8, reproducible handouts, and six picture books to help explain the sensitive topic of abuse (available from Faith Alive).
