In 2015 we celebrated 75 years of ministry! At our annual conference we spent time celebrating the past, looking at learning from the present and imagining the future.

Higher education, like the church, is facing momentous change. Demographics, budgets, demands of business and culture as well as philosophies of education to name a few are dramatically changing the landscape. Criticisms of the current systems abound, as do proposal for new approaches to higher education. Enrollment in 4-year colleges are predicted to drop significantly, and resources are being shifted toward 2 year colleges. It is both an exciting and challenging time to be in ministry on campus.

If the themes of changing demographics and culture, reduced resources and competing views as to what an institution or community should be sound familiar, you are right! Just as many of us serving as leaders in congregations are asking what it means to be a faithful, missional presence in the neighborhoods around us, so are our campus ministries.

If you, or some of the leaders you are working with, are wondering about how the local church and campus might combine to join God in mission, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]
