What time does your Sunday School program meet? Our Sunday School meets for an hour before church. We meet from 9:15 to 10:15 on Sunday morning with worship at 10:30. This time has its pluses and minuses.

"The task of the council is defined as the common administration of the church." (Manual of Christian Reformed Church Government, p. 165). The manual goes on to give some examples of what is meant by "matters of common concern" but allows openness for each church to determine what specific matters should be included in the definition of the task of council.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending one of my favorite Christmas events at my church--Tour of Tables. I brought some friends to tour the decorated tables on Friday night and then also attended the brunch and program Saturday morning. Church members are encouraged to invite their friends and neighbors.

I was reminded by a conversation in the forum that I had planned to develop material on the various positions and tasks in the community of elders. I’m glad someone took up the challenge of the job descriptions. I am not particular enough for naming it all. What interests me more is the question what makes for excellence in council leadership.
