The denominational structure is a drama queen that too often distracts Synod from where its focus should be. Let's trying thinking outside the box. What if we got Synod out of the agency management business? Could shifting resources from the denominational to the classical level better serve the church by reinvesting in local ministry? Would local ministry flourish if your classical budget were two to three times its current size?

Christianity Today recently posted a story of the hacking of computers and loss of $680,000 from St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines last month. You likely don't have that much money in your church account, but are your bookkeepers and treasurers careful enough so that something like this doesn't happen to your church?

Ministers' Pension Plan church assessments are likely to increase approximately 15% starting July 1 if approved by synod. I immediately thought of what this would do to a mid-year church budget. How is your church planning to handle this proposed increase mid-year?

Did you know that each adult church member in the CRC is asked to contribute a base amount of $316.76 in 2011 for denominational ministries? This is done through our churches in a system called "Ministry Shares." Do you wonder how your gifts are supporting these ministries in 2011?

More and more software programs are becoming available online or 'in the cloud'. Currently, there are several popular services like Google Docs or now Microsoft Office Web Apps that make working in the cloud advantageous. Recently, Intuit unveiled Quickbooks Online which allows an organization to manage their books, run reports and more online. Now those who keep track of the church's finances and books can do so in the cloud.

You really need some extra help with cleaning your church facilities. Why not just hire a teen to vacuum a few hours a week and pay them per hour? Then you could avoid the paperwork (I-9, social security and income tax withholding, unemployment compensation etc.).
