It is only October but all of us in church ministry know that we need to be thinking about Christmas and the Christmas program by now or we’re in big trouble. So how can you plan for programs that accomplish what you want while minimizing the headaches?

What time does your Sunday School program meet? Our Sunday School meets for an hour before church. We meet from 9:15 to 10:15 on Sunday morning with worship at 10:30. This time has its pluses and minuses.

Nella Uitvlugt, executive director of Friendship Ministries, has just posted a recording of her popular Autism and Children's Ministry webinar on the Friendship website! Nella first shared this workshop for an eager crowd at the 2008 Children's Pastor's Conference in San Diego, CA. Since then, Nella has offered it live via webinar and received many requests for a recorded version that churches can share with their entire teaching team.

This Sunday school season held a BIG change for my little church. A change that was carefully thought out, prayed over, and discussed. A change that meant rerouting the church van and reorganizing the whole Sunday schedule. A change that required two congregational meetings, the approval of the council, and the vote of church members. It wasn't easy and it wasn't quick, but it happened: our Sunday school hour moved from Sunday evenings to Sunday mornings!

It's February and I feel like a whining, "Is it summer yet?!" Between snow days and special events your Sunday school might be lagging a little behind schedule. Take a minute to look over the scope and sequence of the material you're using to determine where you are and where you’d like to be before the year is done.
February is also a great month to select dates for VBS/summer Sunday school and begin comparing curriculum.
