Deacons, What Works?

Could we get a story that tells about a diaconal initiative?

My last post wondered about pairs of deacons getting together for learning, prayer, discernment, encouragement.....    but that may not be the right approach at all!

Deacons, what's working?   What excites and motivates the deacons in your congregation?  Or, what blocks them?  Share a story with us.   Can deacons lead congregations into new areas?   Can deacons make partnerships happen?  Can deacons be the catalysts or facilitators of innovation?

At my church, Grace CRC in GR, MI, the deacons are charged with all the areas of congregational outreach.  One new things we are just beginning to get our arms around is the Grace House - a house next door to our urban church where we can house students who are committed to be a community and to help us be a "neighborhood church".   There's a story here that needs to be told.    I might tell it one day soon.

But I'd like to invite YOU to tell your story here.    What's exciting for your deacons these days?   and where have your best learnings happened?
