Music Is A Powerful Tool in Children's Lives
Where do you go to find great music to use with kids? How do you decide which songs to use for leading them in worship? Liz Tolkamp has some ideas! Liz is the children’s pastor at Willoughby Christian Reformed Church in Langley, British Columbia. But in February she’ll be flying all the way to Grand Rapids, Michigan to present a workshop called "Sing a New Song!" on leading worship with children.
“I love to sing, and I love to sing with kids!” Liz said, when I asked what made her interested in this topic. She’s been leading the children’s ministry at Willoughby for ten years, and recently became ordained as a ministry associate. She’s hoping that participants will leave her session more prepared to find and use great music, and with some helpful tips about things like creating actions for songs, developing themes for children’s worship, and designing a clear Power Point to project. “I want to encourage. I want to inspire. I want to bless.”
If you’d like to attend Liz’s workshop visit the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators (APCE) website to sign up to attend for one day, or for the full 4-day conference. APCE is an organization that the CRC partners with. This year the conference is coming to Grand Rapids and offering over 80 workshops to choose from!
