One church divides its members into districts--geographic areas in the city, town or region. Each district is assigned a district elder and a deacon. These officebearers are responsible for the spiritual and physical care of the members who live within their assigned region. The officebearers do not have to do everything themselves, but they are responsible to see that the spiritual and physical needs of the members within their span of care are addressed appropriately. This sample letter can be used by an elder to assess the gifts of church members and their willingness for participation and involvement in caring for other members within their district.
