Here’s one of mine: not receiving a thank you card after giving someone a wedding gift. I know that a recently married couple is adjusting to a new life together. Do you go with a heart full of longing to meet with God and his people? Do you have a mental checklist of things you want to see happen, or not happen? Do you have to force yourself to go because you know “that pastor” is preaching? They seemingly spring up out of nowhere, are all the rage for a period of time, and then one day they’re gone. Confusion became apparent. Since the bills are sent out several weeks before payment is due, we have time to review everything prior to sending any checks out. The review this year was an uncomfortable experience. Probably more times than you care to remember. What I find interesting is how much variation there is in the definition of a few minutes. One definition is: “not many but more than one”. I began life on one side and stayed there for several decades. In fact, of all the folks who attend church about 99% of them are on that side—the PS (pew sitter) side. As a PS, I faithfully attended church.
