What Is Going on With the New Mission Agency?

Yes, we are still two separate agencies. No, we don’t have a name yet.

Home Missions and World Missions have been talking about becoming one agency for around 10 years now, but actual work to do so started in 2015. Two years later, we are almost ready to make it official. You may have seen stories and updates trickle out on CRC news about our team leaders, our North American regional leaders, and even our new Director! You may have even participated in one of the branding surveys that we sent out. The work of joining has been progressing but much work is yet to be done.

Home Missions and World Missions will be completing this fiscal year (ending in June 2017) as two separate agencies with two separate budgets. Both agencies still have financial and ministry commitments this year. The new mission agency board will be voting on a new name at the beginning of May (after sending our project team back for further work after February board meetings) and then that name will be hopefully endorsed by Synod. Synod will also be approving the appointment of Rev. Zachary King as the director of the new agency.

In the meantime, we are happy to have a budget for 2017/2018 complete and heading to leadership for approval. We are excited about the new ministry possibilities and the learning we can enjoy by working with colleagues from the other agencies.

To stay updated on the progress of the new mission agency, you can find the newest stories on our joining page here.

Always interesting to see how folks in the HO culture of the CRC "presume" synod will approve something it has not yet seen. If that is true for other routine stuff why is it even on the Synod agenda?  This is not a complaint but a complement.. I wish the folks who operate these ministries just get on with it and report like above. Synod would simply ratify the decisions of the Executive Director.  It would help focus synod on the the strategic issues facing the CRCNA.
