Question 4: Is being part of a denomination important? Why or why not?

Comment from CRCNA's Facebook Page: Denomination is cultural and local identity of a particular community, with its own understanding of the Tradition passed on to us by the Apostles. Some do make a big break from that Tradition and some maintain a certain continuity from the Ancient church or the Apostolic Church. We should now be Transdenominational, we move beyond our Denomination by seeking reunions and reunification with other brothers and sisters in the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Edit

Comment from CRCNA's Facebook Page: Yes and no. Yes for identity (beliefs) and No because if it's part of the true church, we are members of the church universal. A name of a church isn't everything.

Being a part of a denomination is not important.  I need to be a member of the body of Christ who I feel is being faithful of God's word.  I feel that we are moving in a direction being a denomination of churches that are Congregational in nature (each congregation doing as it wishes)

Yes. Along with so many things in our transient, cyber-spaced world, a denomination gives one roots, and a sense of belonging. It may be going against the grain of our society, but it's good for people to have a place to belong.

Organizations embed values and express them corporately.  Effective mission is enhanced by healthy organization, by responsible leadership, by clear roles and goals.   There is accountability and fellowship and synergy when there is healthy organization.   sooner or later all  movements need to be organized.   It's a fact of life.  Denominations are one expression of that reality.  The pendulum swings, but in my opinion the benefits of denominations are still outweighing the downsides.

Being part of a denomination is not essential (there's nothing Biblical about this structure) but very helpful. There are resources that can most usefully be shared across churches, there is value in a stable tradition of worship, theology and practice, and there is a sense of the universal church as we support one another within the denomination.
