The Sunday school kickoff is coming soon, do you have standards in place to start the season off right? Lori Schreur, the director of children's ministries at Seymour Christian Reformed Church gave me permission to post this list of expectation, complete with positive consequences for obeying and negative consequences for disobeying. It was developed several years ago by the GEMS head councelor at Seymour, Kim Hofstra. Each of the children's ministries sends this list of rules home for families to review and send back in with a parent's signature.

Rules for all Children's Programs at Seymour

  1. I will listen when other people are talking.

Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.  James 1:9

  1. I will raise my hand when I want to talk.

(A person) who guards (their) lips guards (their) life.  Proverbs 13:3

  1. I will keep my hands and feet to myself at all times.

(A person) who respects a command is rewarded.  Proverbs 13:13b

  1. I will follow directions willingly.

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus… taking the very nature of a servant.  Ephesians 2:5-7

  1. I will respect my teacher and the other kids in class.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come from your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up. Ephesians 4:29

  1. I will act in a Christ-like manner.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.  Ephesians 4:32

Positive Consequences for Obeying:

  1. Be able to learn more about God.
  2. Be able to have more fun.
  3. Know that you are pleasing God.
  4. Know that you have done your best.

Negative Consequences for Disobeying:

  1. Receive a reminder.
  2. Receive a warning.
  3. Take a time-out for discussion.
  4. Talk with the children's ministry director and parents and sign a contract for appropriate behavior.

Parents, please sign below after you have read the above discipline procedures and discussed them with your child.  Your signature means you have read and agree to our policies.
