Sunday morning for me feels like kids, kids, kids. And the energy it takes to serve them well—singing, telling stories, listening to them, helping them get along, praying together, leading activities… can be exhausting. I love my Sunday afternoon nap!

If your Sunday sounds like mine, why not take a week off and visit another congregation? Not to church shop, or even to see what Sunday school is like at another church (although that can be fun)—just to rest. We all need to worship in a responsibility-free zone from time to time, to put planning and leading aside and just feed on God’s word and enjoy God’s presence.

Over the holidays I arranged for two weeks that I could get away from my regular schedule to visit family. Attending two other churches reminded me what I love about my own. The rest and reflection recharged me for the New Year.

When can you get away? What will it take to make that happen?
