I’m on a mission to connect with children’s ministry directors, Sunday school coordinators, and teachers to see and hear what God is doing in their midst. I’m hoping to highlight a new idea or best practice each week so that we can feel more connected to other CRC churches and learn from each other. Stay tuned for ideas on prayer, communication, connecting with leaders, and more. Better yet, let me know if you can chat in person or via phone or Skype so that I can add your ideas to the mix.

Here is a fun one that’s easy to implement at any time of the year. The fourth grade teacher at my church took two photos of each kid in the class. In one, the kids are looking at the camera, grinning, and acting like themselves. In the second they are free to ham it up — silly faces, dramatic poses, tongues sticking out — you name it. The teacher used a colorful strip of paper as a background to unite the two photos. Then she stuck each pair of photos on the wall to create a display of faces with cut out letters that reads, “We are the 4th Grade!”

What do you use to decorate the walls of your room? How do you help kids feel like part of the group?

Holly Gort, Children's Ministry Director at South Grandville CRC, sent me this great idea for decorating classrooms and celebrating baptisms:

I put posters on the wall with the kids names, baptism dates, and on the bottom it states: Child of God! We celebrate the kids baptism dates like a birthday! Give them a small book called "God Thinks You're Wonderful" by Max Lucado.

Thanks for sharing, Holly!
