Mary Jo Leddy is the founder of Romero House, a refugee welcome house in Toronto. She writes powerfully about the call of Christ that she hears—and that we too can hear—when she comes face-to-face with a refugee in need. She also argues that this experience of “being faced” can call us as individuals, and indeed as a whole church, to become who we are meant to be. She gave an address at the launch of the Journey with Me, a 90-minute interactive workshop that aims to help Christian citizens work with their refugee neighbours for justice. Her address (which can be read below) can serve as a helpful sermon starter on the good Samaritan parable or on the call to welcome the stranger.
