Imagine this. You’ve been in an ongoing spiritual discussion with someone and are asked, “So what is the Gospel?” How would you answer? I had a pretty pat answer in mind until I spent time reflecting on the first four verses of Isaiah 61. This passage points out a bigger understanding of the Gospel than I’m used to thinking when it talks about the Spirit’s anointing to preach good news to the poor, bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim freedom and release from darkness, comfort those who mourn, and to bestow beauty, gladness and praise. I now see clearly that the Gospel is a lot bigger than my normal Christian experience.

Tonight our small group is going to reflect on these verses together. We’ll start by describing ways the Gospel is at work in our own lives. Hopefully, we’ll end by discovering how we can live the Gospel together in ways that reflect Isaiah 61.

How about your small group? How are you living out the Gospel in ways that make a difference to the world around you?
