The question I receive the most from church administrators is whether the denomination has any information from a number of churches on wages for staff. We have a sample "wage scale" under Church Finance and Administration Resources/Employment Issues with "ranges" for salaries but this is just a sample for one large CRC. Each year the denomination coordinates a "Ministers' Compensation Survey" but this does not include information on other staff members.
So what would a staff wage survey look like? How would we figure out how to compare apples to apples? Could we use some of the categories similar to those by Richard Hammer in "Compensation for Church Staff?" Some of these categories include church size (# member ranges), church location (rural, metropolitan, suburb), college graduate required, supervisory role, etc.
So let's talk about a wage survey. Is this something more of us are interested in? Is it something we could accomplish in the next year? What are your ideas?
