How do you find rest and relaxation from the business of church life? This weekend I had the pleasure of scouting out lighthouses, antiques, rocks, beaches, more antiques, hikes, quiet, sunsets, God's Word and more for 4 days in the Leelanau Penninsula. I'm trying to actively provide rest for my soul--among 200 year old cedar trees, rock gardens formed by lighthouse keepers in the early 1900's, and depression glass and other assorted old stuff at resale and antique shops. Do you find old stuff comforting? Or do you continue to rev your engine day after day and still are fueled? Here's hoping you find rest among your busy responsibilities of life. Do you have that sabbatical policy in place for your pastor? Are you flexible enough in your policy to allow them the rest they really need? Do you encourage them to find rest and grounding? Check out these CRC resources for some great input on sabbatical policies. Also, remember that your staff need vacation and rest also so be sure you have laid out a policy that allows rest in their lives.
