Coordinator of Worship and Music at First CRC (Grand Rapids, MI)


First CRC in Grand Rapids, Mich is looking for someone to fill a part-time position who will work with the pastor in the planning and implementation of the worship and music ministry.

The Coordinator of Worship and Music (CWM) brings life and breadth to the planning and implementation of Christ-centered worship at First Christian Reformed Church, Grand Rapids, Michigan. From music to liturgy to visual arts, the work is done in collaboration with the pastors and staff at the church and incorporates the gifts and participation of the entire congregation.

This position is new, but serves a historic congregation in the heart of the central city, and requires spiritual maturity, cultural competency, and a collaborative spirit. The CWM is a part-time position, which reports to the Senior Pastor.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Weekly worship planning and preparation
  • Music selection and leadership
  • Focus on additional worship arts
  • Incorporating the gifts of the congregation
  • Participating as a member of the staff of First CRC

Spiritual/Theological Qualifications:

  • A growing relationship with Jesus Christ; a mature, Christian lifestyle; and an understanding and belief in the tenets of the Reformed Christian faith
  • Able to articulate a theology of worship that demonstrates a solid grasp of historic principles and contemporary issues in Christian worship

Professional/Personal Qualifications:

  • Education and/or experience in worship planning and related skills preferred
  • Disposition to learning and discovery is essential, given that no one is likely an expert in all areas of worship or has experience in all areas of this job description
  • Spontaneous, creative thinker who will think both short term and long term about worship service themes
  • Possesses knowledge and personal experience in areas of diversity and cultural competence that would influence aspects of worship planning, from music to liturgy to visual arts
  • Able to work collegially and pastorally with a diverse group of musicians, praise team singers, artists, and other leaders at First Church, including the pastors and staff
  • Working knowledge of, or ability to learn “Easy Worship” software, Vmix livestreaming software, and other technological aides for services
