QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS: This person shall promote the Vision and Mission of Cornerstone Prison Church to the congregation and the community. He shall inspire, train, support, and guide members to use their spiritual gifts in ministry to the church and the community. He shall encourage, support, and mentor members in their relationships with unbelievers and in their ability to lead a person to a saving faith in Jesus.
THE VISION OF CORNERSTONE PRISON CHURCH: is to share with the community of the South Dakota State Penitentiary (SDSP) and the surrounding area the life changing love of God through salvation in Jesus Christ.
THE MISSION OF CORNERSTONE PRISON CHURCH: is to help the men at the South Dakota State Penitentiary (SDSP) to develop into faithful disciples of Jesus Christ both inside and outside the institution.
ACCOUNTABLE TO: This servant leader will be accountable to Cornerstone Prison Church’s “outside” Ambassador Board, and the “inside” Council.
JOB DESCRIPTION: This person will be expected to be in the prison facility at least 3 days a week. He will need to get the required pink tag training, attend chaplain meetings when scheduled, lead at least 2 Bible Studies a week, preach one sermon a week on The Hill and one at Unit C. He must preach doctrinally based sermons using the infallible Word of God. He shall oversee either the Cornerstone Prison Church’s Outreach Team or the Prayer Team: this will be decided by the Cornerstone Prison Church’s Council, and/or the Ambassador Board. He shall be required to attend and give monthly reports to the Cornerstone Prison Church’s Council and Ambassador Board: including how he is using his time in prison and should also include his pulpit supply opportunities. He shall provide pastoral counseling, conflict resolution, and one-on-one time as needed for the men of Cornerstone Prison Church. He will administer sacraments only as directed by the Cornerstone Church Council. He shall model a life of discipleship. He shall ensure pastoral care for all who request it. He shall work to ensure organized and efficient administration and communication.
In addition, in an effort to be a positive liaison with our broader mission effort we request that he attend and provide reports at denominational meetings. He shall also accept pulpit supply outside the prison walls when such supporting churches request it in order to build support and awareness of Cornerstone and to keep people relations strong.
