Part Time Faith Formation (Youth and Children's Ministry) Pastor at Living Water CRC (Grand Rapids, MI)


Living Water is a multiethnic church plant in Grand Rapids. We are prayerfully seeking a part time Faith Formation Pastor who will pastor our Children's and Youth Ministry.  

Living Water Faith Formation Pastor (Part-time):

Is someone who loves children and youth, is passionate about discipling them to live out gospel in their lives and is someone who nurtures them to have commitment for the Kingdom of God through understanding and application of God’s Word.  


  1. Loves Christ, His Church, Children and Youth

  2. Submitted to the authority of God’s Word and engaged in active prayer life

  3. Models discipleship in Jesus Christ with godly character, integrity, and a commitment to growing in faith

  4. Possess teachable spirit

  5. Understands and committed to building Kingdom of God here and now

  6. Demonstrates ability to build relationships with children, youth, teachers and their families

  7. Team player who has an aptitude for supporting senior pastor and leadership in the pastoral care of children, youth and their families. 

  8. Understands and committed to the Reformed life and world view

  9. Master of Divinity or equivalent training preferred

  10. Understand Christian Reformed Church’s theology, polity and its ethical stands and committed to it

Overall Responsibilities:

  1. Provide oversight of all children from birth to 12th grade
  2. Foster relationship development as a building block for effective ministry
  3. Inspire, recruit and equip teachers and volunteers to use their spiritual gifts in reaching and building up children and youth in their faith
  4. Equip parents to disciple their children via training, equipping and congregational support
  5. Research and/or create age-appropriate resources for all classroom levels
  6. Train and nurture teachers to be effective and prepared for their ministry
  7. Provide pastoral care for children, youth and their families in partnership with teachers, senior pastor and leadership team
  8. Make a yearly budget and manage finance for Faith Formation Ministry
  9. Plan and implement a variety of youth and children’s ministry events and programs consistent with the fulfillment of the vision and growth of the church
  10. Committed to Living Water Church’s vision and goals 
  11.  Willingness to commit to Safe Church policy of CRC 

Detailed Responsibilities: (roughly 12 hours a week)

  1. Weekly 

    1. Lead Children’s Worship

    2. Lead Youth Worship

    3. Meeting with the senior pastor

    4. Meeting with youth and children’s ministry teachers

    5. Communication with parents

    6. Prayer meeting

  2. Monthly

    1. Leadership Meeting attendance and report

    2. FUN Nights (Families their children get together to experience diverse cultural expressions such as food and customs and fun activities)

  3. Yearly

    1. Special events associated with Christmas, Easter, Church anniversary

    2. Baptism and Profession of Faith

    3. Budget Meetings

    4. Congregational Meetings

    5. Leadership Retreats

    6. Position and Ministry Evaluation 

Work Environment: 

This position reports directly to the senior pastor, keeping him updated with the ministry’s activities and concerns

While fulfilling the objectives of his or her role, this position will work in cooperation with other staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers

This position will keep the leadership aware of his/her work, providing leadership in keeping with the overall vision and mission established by the church 

Church’s Commitment:  

  1. Prayer, encouragement, and support for pastor’s family and ministry 

  2. Commitment to follow pastor’s leading and guidance in ministry

  3. Senior pastor’s support and partnership in Faith Formation Ministry 

  4. Provide tools necessary for effective work: office supplies, educational opportunities

  5. Professional development (two weeks with allowances provided) 

  6. Vacation: Two week paid vacation

  7. Position and ministry evaluation annually
