River Park CRC of Calgary, Alberta is seeking a full-time Pastor of Preaching, Care and Spiritual Formation. We are a multi-cultural congregation situated in the foothills of the beautiful Rocky Mountains. We are looking for a pastor to inspire us to reach out, draw in, and create community.

In a diverse and creative milieu, the Pastor of Preaching, Care and Spiritual Formation will support the ministry of RPC in pursuits of its Vision by to grow River Park Church (RPC) into a place where people can find community and spiritual growth through providing preaching, spiritual formation and pastoral care to the RPC community helping to create experiences and spaces for relationship, learning and worship.  The Pastor of Preaching, Care and Spiritual Formation will work closely with Council, the Vision Support Team and Worship personnel. 

Core Responsibilities

The Pastor of Preaching, Care and Spiritual Formation is responsible to provide spiritual leadership through the preaching and teaching of God’s Word and provision pastoral care to those facing critical life issues to facilitate opportunities for people to find community at RPC and discover and develop their understanding of Scripture and grow in their relationship with God. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provides the preaching of the Word at least twice a month, in a manner that is relevant, Biblical and motivating
  • Coordinates the remainder of the preaching needs, ensuring sermons are Biblically-based and aligned with RPC’s vision
  • Leads the development of themes/sermon series as appropriate for the life of the church and/or liturgical calendar
  • Provides leadership development and discipleship, ensuring that individuals serving in ministries are effectively equipped to evangelize, disciple, and help people find a place of belonging and spiritual growth at RPC
  • Assesses the spiritual needs of the congregation and takes necessary initiatives to address these needs
  • Encourages, promotes and coordinates the prayer ministry of RPC
  • Provides pastoral care to those facing critical life situations and concerns
  • Provides individual mentorship and guidance to church community as needed
  • Performs ministerial duties such as weddings, funerals, and baptisms
  • Provides support and mentorship to other RPC staff through periodic attendance of administrative meetings and other one-on-one meetings as necessary
  • Provides consultation to Council on areas of congregational spiritual growth and formation
  • Represent RPC in community and be the ‘face of RPC’
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by Council 


The Pastor of Preaching, Care and Spiritual Formation must possess:

  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and allows the Holy Spirit to work in their life and encourages others to allow the Holy Spirit to be at work in their lives
  • A servant’s heart to connect with and embrace each person’s unique being, ethnicity, background and ideas
  • The spiritual gifts of preaching, teaching, pastoral care, leadership, faith, evangelism, and intercession
  • Adaptability in preaching and communication style that is able to both inspire and teach as needed
  • The ability to cultivate and integrate faith into all facets of daily living and public life
  • A passion for prayer, understanding that prayer changes events, attitudes, and lives
  • A willingness to learn and adjust to varying leadership situations and needs
  • The ability to motivate people by coming alongside them
  • A willingness to take risks to achieve RPC vision and mission
  • The ability to accept failure as part of the process and move on with innovative approaches
  • A understanding of the principles of multi-cultural ministry and experience interacting and communicating with groups and individuals of different global ethnic backgrounds is an asset
  • A Masters of Divinity and is ordained in the Christian Reformed Church
