DIRECTOR OF MINISTRIES AND OUTREACH (1.0 FTE) JOB POSTING:

First Christian Reformed Church of Taber, Alberta is looking to hire a full-time director of Ministries and Outreach. We are an intergenerational congregation that offers many programs in our church community. We are situated in Southern Alberta and have a congregation size of over 300 members. We have a balance of traditional and contemporary worship within our church. The mission of Taber CRC is “to learn about God’s love in Jesus Christ, to celebrate this love and to communicate this love to all people”. This position will work closely with all our church ministries with a strong emphasis on the youth and the many programs that fall under the Youth Education Committee (YEC). The hope is to have these programs expand and flourish. This position will also oversee the Outreach programs in our church as we seek out the desire to spread Christ’s love to all those around us.

Director of Ministries and Outreach (1.0 FTE) JOB DESCRIPTION:

Description:

The Director of Ministries and Outreach will work alongside the lead pastor to provide leadership and mentoring within the ministries and outreach of our church. They will provide training, organizing and working alongside church members who are serving in these programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing the programs that fall under the YEC and leading volunteers. This person will provide leadership in mentoring, training, and organizing volunteers to serve in these programs. It will involve helping the congregation to identify and use their gifts.
  • Responsible for YEC ministries with scheduling, ordering, purchasing and other needs. YEC Ministries include: Sunday School, Catechism, Cadets, Gems, MOPS, Young Peoples, Young Adults and Nursery. Meet with the YEC on a monthly basis – up to 9 times per year.
  • Coordinate small group programs which include Ladies and Men’s Bible studies, Senior’s Fellowship, Coffee Break and Church Library. Seek out study material on various topics that would be of interest for the different study groups.
  • Build more awareness about these groups within the congregation in order to encourage greater participation.
  • Actively be involved in Catechism – either by finding volunteers and/or teaching.
  • Work with parents on establishing and running a Youth Group/Young Peoples program and providing mentorship to the youth. This may involve organizing a group of mentors within our congregation that can be made available to the youth.
  • Outreach opportunities include assisting the outreach committee in promoting and seeking volunteers to serve in these areas. This person will be involved in community ministry partnership.
  • Coordinate events for Young people/Young Adults/congregation to assist community organizations with their tasks (Examples are Taber Food Bank, St. Vincent DePaul, Senior’s facilities etc.)
  • Organize events to help members in the community with needs: Ie. yard work, basic home repairs, rides to appointments….
  • Coordinate congregational events that utilize our facilities: ex. Fellowship hall for meals and meetings, and gymnasium usage with sport camps or activities. Organize meetings for topics of interest like drug awareness, depression, grief, youth related topics etc.
  • Responsible for Intergenerational events - Coordinate with the Pastor on monthly intergenerational events.
  • Report to the Staff Relations Committee
  • Regular attendance of monthly council meetings and weekly staff meeting/prayer time.

Qualifications:

  • This can be an ordained or non-ordained position but previous training and education within this field is required. If the eligible candidate is ordained to preach, they can be asked to fill-in at various times.
  • Educational background and/or experience in church ministry is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and capable of working in team settings
  • Skills and experience in teaching, training, organizing and coaching volunteers

Church’s Commitment:

  • Remuneration for full-time position
  • Vacation – three weeks paid vacation per annum

Director of Care (0.5 PTE) JOB DESCRIPTION

Description

The Director of Care will work alongside the pastor in formulating care groups within our church. They will provide leadership to all the programs that fall under the Care Ministry. This person will need a passion for serving and caring for the church family.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

  • Establish Care Teams to assist with visits and to help ensure that the care of our members are being taken care of. Care workers/teams would make sure that any needs are being looked after by visiting, arranging meals, helping with driving or any other needs that are necessary.
  • Monthly meetings with care team workers to discuss any needs within that district. Needs can be spiritual, emotional or physical and assistance can be provided in many different ways.
  • Organize and participate in district luncheons.
  • Help ensure people are looked after, especially after having a baby, hospital stays, surgeries, etc. Also being aware of those who are not attending our church anymore but are still members and reaching out to them.
  • Work with the Fellowship Committee on planning events - organize and give leadership to members on the committee. Some responsibilities are to plan and look after church potlucks, Church picnics and other events in the congregation.
  • Assist the Seniors Fellowship committee – coordinating a Christmas Dinner and other events by request.
  • Assist with Funeral Service Reception - Arrange volunteers for preparation, serving and clean-up of Funeral receptions.
  • Look after new members - Organize and provide leadership to ensure that new members are introduced and are feeling at home in the church.
  • Report to the Staff Relations Committee and attend weekly staff/prayer meeting.

Qualifications:

  • Education and/or experience in care ministry is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and ability to work as a team.
  • Strong organizational skills
