Today I'd like to direct you to a kind of "guest blog," an article in the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship (CICW) called "Technology that Redeems Downtime." This article gives examples of many ways you and your church can use technology to "support a lifestyle of worship."
You will read that technology can support several parts of worship:
- Gathering,
- God's Word,
- Celebrating at the Table, and
- Sending out to serve.
There's a sidebar, too, on using Skype to communicate with your missionaries, and a list of various resources to learn more about technology supporting worship.
After reading the article, and perhaps contributing a comment, take a look around the CICW website. If you have not already explored this site, you should! And share it with your worship planning team. The site is full of valuable resources for worship.

Mavis, Thanks! These are some great ideas--both for personal worship and for building community by seeing and hearing other worshipers from other parts of the world.
In our congregation I see people starting to use their Ipads for taking notes on the sermon. A while ago, someone ahead of me was googling pictures or articles related to the sermon topic. Not sure how I feel about that . . . nice to have access to so much information, but Google isn't connecting God's word to their lives.
Like so much else in this world--technology is a great gift, but we can choose to use it for good or bad purposes. I'd love to hear how others are using technology in helpful ways in worship.
