Crossroads Prison Ministry tested Discover Ruth with a group of recently released inmates. Crossroads staff wanted to learn how the discovery method might work with the prison population. At first the discussion was slow. The group leader asked questions, but there was little conversation. The group facilitator was smart. He asked the group why they might be reluctant to share. One person explained, “In prison, people don’t ask you for your opinion.”

The leader let them know this is the type of group where their ideas are important. That broke the ice. In the following Bible study conversations, group members had so much to say that they spread each lesson over two weeks!

The partnership with Crossroads was created with a newly formed organization made up of Coffee Break, Timothy Leadership Training, and Educational Care. The umbrella name for this new group is Raise Up Global Ministries. We have formed this partnership with Crossroads so that the well tested materials of Coffee Break and Timothy Leadership Training can be used in prisons around the world! Crossroads mentors will begin using the Discover Your Bible series with inmates in 2019.

I'll take this opportunity to put in a plug for Crossroads.  They are currently making a push for more mentors.  This is a very worthwhile ministry and tangible way to put into practice what we learn from our Lord in Matthew 25.  We can indeed "visit" prisoners in a very real way through this ministry.

I would urge all brothers and sisters to prayerfully consider whether God is calling (and equipping!) you to come alongside prisoners as a mentor in the faith, encouraging and helping to sustain them.
