Gathering to Grow God's Kingdom: Leader Training

What would you hope for from a Coffee Break Leader training? When asked, the 32 leaders gathered in Chicagoland resonated with two common themes: encouragement and becoming more effective in leading a Discover Your Bible conversation.

Just being together, spending time dwelling in the Word, and sharing stories gave plenty of encouragement for the upcoming Coffee Break season. Together time is good for remembering that being a Coffee Break leader puts you in a community of leaders with a common vision; to create small group environments where others discover the Gospel message and are transformed into disciples of Jesus. Following vision together is beyond encouraging. It’s inspiring.

And being a part of this community of leaders gives the privilege of sowing seeds of the gospel by simply helping people discover the message of the Bible. Interactive (and fun!) learning tasks equipped brand new leaders and seasoned leaders to be more effective in two primary skills: question asking and listening. Good questions given in the study guide shape the conversation. Listening to the group’s questions and reflections lead to great probing questions. Listening to the Spirit leads to transforming questions. How does one learn to ask good questions? Listen first.

Coffee Break leaders are encouraged to think kingdom vision and that leads to a desire to scatter gospel seeds beyond the walls of a given church. Some of these leaders are considering starting a Coffee Break group in a library. Some are wondering what it would be like to partner with nearby churches of other denominations to provide more opportunities for people to get into the Word. Some are planning ways to serve in their community. All want to follow God in His mission, which requires imagination and experimentation.

What happens in a Coffee Break Leader Training? The Spirit speaks, we listen, and together we support one another in scattering and planting seeds of the gospel.
