Many churches are rethinking the role of leadership that deacons play. One church recently combined the Outreach Team with the Deacons. Another church eliminated the office of Deacon altogether and designed an approach that divided the tasks Deacons normally take on into various teams, leaving the elders to be the governance unit all alone. Other churches have deacons represented on various ministry teams.
