In the weeks surrounding Easter, Christians reflect on the work of Jesus Christ, the Son of God who humbled Himself, became a servant, and obeyed His Father, and died on a cross in propitiation for our sins. He did it in accordance with the scriptures. Many of us want to jump past that to His resurrection on the third day. But it’s important to marinade in our need for the cross—our continuing need for the cross. Jesus did hang on the cross on a specific day in history, but that act reaches through eternity to save people past and future—to pay the price for our own sins past, present, and future. What a glorious God! What a merciful friend! Our sins are forgiven, but it does not end there, of course. There is the third day. On the third day He rose, according to the scriptures. And by His life, we live. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.—1 Corinthians 15:22 (ESV).
