Groundwork: Biblical Foundations for Life

In the weeks surrounding Easter, Christians reflect on the work of Jesus Christ, the Son of God who humbled Himself, became a servant, and obeyed His Father, and died on a cross in propitiation for our sins. He did it in accordance with the scriptures. Many of us want to jump past that to His resurrection on the third day. But it’s important to marinade in our need for the cross—our continuing need for the cross. Jesus did hang on the cross on a specific day in history, but that act reaches through eternity to save people past and future—to pay the price for our own sins past, present, and future. What a glorious God! What a merciful friend! Our sins are forgiven, but it does not end there, of course. There is the third day. On the third day He rose, according to the scriptures. And by His life, we live. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.—1 Corinthians 15:22 (ESV).

Join hosts Dave Bast and Scott Hoezee on Groundwork as they lead discussion about Jesus the suffering servant and Jesus the victorious Son of God.

Groundwork is a half hour radio and podcast Bible-teaching program that plumbs the substantive questions of the Bible, seeking a practical understanding of God’s Word in today’s culture.

Suffering Servant. Even those of us most intent on the Messiah get wrapped up in his victorious nature and overlook those prophecies about the suffering servant. We explore Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22 and how they impact our understanding of Jesus.

Easter Hope. We look again at the best part of all the Good News – that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead, and that he lives to save us. But that's not just the message of the gospels; God's salvation plan was described centuries before in Hebrew scriptures. We study passages from both the Old Testament and the New to remember the power and hope of Christ's resurrection.
