Our team had pretty busy last week at conferences, service trips, and surgeries. As we're finding our way to the Monday morning coffee, here's a few of the faith formation articles we stumbled upon last week.

  • Leading, following and a toddler's first steps. Theresa F. Latini reflects on lessons learned while parenting, and how leading and following are frequently intertwined.
  • A congregation deepens worship with collaborative visual displays. Using materials as simple as duct tape, cloth, and cinder block, the staff and laypeople at Tabernacle Baptist Church create visual installations that immerse the congregation — including a significant population of Burmese refugees — in the worship experience.
  • Topic-based youth work is bad for your spiritual health. Anglican Alex Taylor argues that youth groups should be setting aside topic-based discussions and studies and letting "young people lose on a book that will change their lives, without putting it through a filter or a theme."
  • Instead of Facebook, a book of faces. Tamara Hill Murphy reflects on the image of God, uncomfortableness, and our "selfie" culture via Faces, a new photographic work by Bruce Gilden. "In a world overflowing with Photoshopped and filtered images, Face stops our scrolling in its tracks and makes us evaluate exactly what it is we’re seeking."
