Someone recently shared an article with me called It’s Not About You, It’s About Unleashing Them. It’s a short review of a book on leadership. At first glance, I was glad it was short. But I was quickly even more glad this gem had made its way to my inbox.

I love it when short and to-the-point articles say something poignant to me. I have limited time (or will) to sit and read anything too lengthy, so when I walk away with something memorable from a short blog, podcast, or article, I’m grateful for the insight and am more willing to read or listen the next time.

So what was the thought that made me stop and be grateful for this article? A reminder of what biblical leadership is all about. A reminder to be an “ambassador of other people’s awesomeness.” A reminder that leadership is not about the leader, but about the people they have the opportunity to serve. This little reminder flooded me with thanks. Thanks for a job where I get to be a representative, promoter, and servant of some pretty incredible congregations, pastors, and church leaders.

Just this week, I was able to coordinate a Zoom prayer time with eight pastors and leaders from my region. We prayed together and we shared ideas with each other. I sat in my chair and watched as these leaders met for the first time or re-connected with each other. They shared ministry challenges and successes, as well as concerns, encouragement, and laughter. In this time of COVID-19, organizing that connection point for them and giving them a space to share their awesomeness with each other was a real treat and left me wondering: How else I can be an ambassador for all the awesomeness I see in each of the churches I serve?

Faith Formation Ministries provides congregational faith formation leaders the opportunity to meet in-person or connect digitally or by phone with members of our team and other ministry leaders for coaching and support. Whether it’s a one-time, one-on-one conversation or a long-term peer group, we are here to help. For more information about our regional catalyzer, visit crcna.org/FaithFormation/coaching.
