This resource is part of a series of interactive, intergenerational ideas for engaging people in faith practices through worship and/or midweek gatherings, brought to you by Worship Ministries and Faith Formation Ministries as part of the Faith Practices Project.

When you pause to consider “listening” as a spiritual practice, it’s clear that there are many ways to listen, many things to listen to, and many reasons why it’s so important to listen. We listen to God, we listen to one another. We want others to listen to us.

As you plan this service, think about your particular congregation, being mindful of what is going on in your community and in the world, and think about the ways that listening feels particularly important. Maybe you’re going through a discernment process and want to take an entire service to focus on really listening to the Spirit. Maybe you recently experienced loss and this is a service to listen to God’s words of comfort. Because listening can take on so many different directions, do some good listening work as you plan to figure out what is most needed in your congregation in the moment.
