Connecting With Your Community

“All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:27)

Many of us are steeped in an extremely individualistic western culture. Yet our Father God exists in community with the Son and with the Holy Spirit. Each part is intrinsically interconnected. We are created in God’s image, with a deep desire and need for connection. With the creation of the first person, Adam, came the declaration that it was not good for the man to be alone. We are designed and created to need one another, and to be in community together. We, as believers, are called to be One Body in Christ, and it’s that Body that together participates in ministry, loving our neighbors, and bearing witness to Christ living within us!

Three CRC ministries, Race Relations, Disability Concerns, and Safe Church Ministry, are excited to try something new that will focus on our ministry together. The goal is to equip congregations to better engage as a community, and within the larger community of which they are a part. Connecting with Your Community will take place Saturday, September 9 in Mississauga, ON, at Meadowvale Community CRC.

Our communities face incredible challenges amid a quickly changing culture. Though we may deal with these challenges and changes in different ways, we as the Church need to stand together with strong connections, as we are built up to be Christ's body in our communities. Our communities and our congregations include people of various ethnicities, abilities, and experiences. Many carry the scars from painful experiences arising from the prevalent sins of our culture, including racism, ableism, and sexism. How can we fight against these harmful realities? How can we fully honour each and every person, uniquely created in the very image of God? How can the beloved community that we strive to become in our congregations spill out into the streets of our neighbourhoods?

This free workshop will bring together some wonderful resources of the Christian Reformed Church, and provide an opportunity for attendees to network and learn from local ministry leaders and from one another. All are invited to come! Prayerfully consider how you can become a part of equipping your congregation to love well, both within and beyond the walls of your church.
