The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. The model for developing ministry leaders for many, many years has for the large part has taken the form of training sessions, conferences, webinars, etc. And they often dealt with a specific ministry focus, such as stewardship or GEMS, or a particular area of skill development, such as how to mediate in conflict or structure a worship service. And those are GOOD things in and of themselves, but they don't get at the heart of what it means to be a Godly leader or how to develop leadership within our churches.

A leader is one who lives a life worth imitating. What is it that God wants His leaders to model? That question sends me back to a church basement more than 30 years ago (gulp!) where I was wearing a white blouse, navy skirt and a blue kerchief sheathed around my neck.

"Calvinettes, what does the Lord require of us?"

"To do justice, to love kindness and walk humbly with our God. Micah 6:8"

That's it. Simple. And impossible on our own.

In this 8-week, small group resource Karen Wilk takes you deep into Scripture for transformational heart and head teaching, but then takes the critical next steps of helping define your 'neighbourhood',  sending you out in doable steps of deepening connection and care for those God has placed in your life. It's not rocket science, it's real life- learning how to be the gospel where you are every day, right now. That's what leadership development needs to look like. It is the cultivation of life-on-life relationships where expressions of justice, kindness and humility are being modeled and imitated.

This resource is available for purchase (on sale now for $5!) and you can read the review by fellow CRC member Karl Westerhof.
