Rev. Elaine May, senior pastor of Mayfair Church in Grand Rapids, MI, was the first to register for the upcoming SheLeads Conference to be held at Calvin Theological Seminary on Saturday, October 28. She said the theme of shared leadership between men and women drew her to the conference. “As a senior pastor, I am interested in learning how to share leadership as well as learn how to lean on those who advocate for women leaders.” She also met Todd Hunter, one of the main presenters, while she was a student at Fuller Seminary and is looking forward to hearing him again.
The goal of the conference is to “encourage and equip our sisters and to welcome our brothers as we imagine together where God is leading His Church, for the blessing of the nations.”
- When we lead together, we see the family of God restored.
- When we lead together, we learn a new vocabulary for mission.
- When we lead together, we better reflect the person of Christ.
- When we lead together, we more fully embody Jesus' gospel.
Rev. May has a “really wonderful blend” in her council that consists of 55% men and 45% women where there is mutual respect. Yet, she says there’s “always more to learn and cultural assumptions to be aware of and to intentionally work towards changing so that women can fully contribute their gifts to the furthering of God’s kingdom.” She has a strong commitment to mentoring young leaders and is bringing two female seminary students to the conference.
SheLeads is streaming live from Pasadena, CA to thirteen regional venues across North America. We hope you will join us for this exciting event in Grand Rapids!
