Stand Against Racism Chapel - April 19th

Greetings! The YWCA has hosted a Stand Against Racism event for the last several years, and for the last several years Calvin College and The Office of Race Relations have hosted separate events. This year we are combining our efforts with an event on Calvin’s campus.

Date: Wed. April 19, 2017
Time: 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Location: Calvin College Chapel Undercroft

Inspired by the YWCA's national Stand Against Racism annual campaign, Calvin College and The Office of Race Relations are hosting a worship service. The service will feature music, readings, prayer, and a call to action to stand against racism. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of the persistence of racism, to repent of our own culpability, and to stand united against the sin of racism.

Is racism a big enough a problem at Calvin College that there needs to be an annual chapel dedicated to the problem?  Is it the student body?  faculty? administration? constituency?

Doug, that's a great question. The answer is yes. To bring the sin of racism before the Lord is a wonderful opportunity to lament, repent, pray, and work towards becoming more aware of its effects on all people. Again, thanks for the question.

Wow!  I have to admit I'm surprised that Calvin would have that particular problem.
