With Christmas approaching quickly, it is quite possible that your shopping is nearly done and most of the presents are already wrapped and under the tree. It’s a good feeling!

Before the presents were neatly wrapped in bows, did you and your spouse have a discussion about Christmas? Specifically, did you determine a budget or set a limit on the number of gifts to get each child? How did you decide on your gift giving system?

Perhaps you’ve seen this article floating around the internet of a mother in the UK who bought 300 presents for her kids and then posted a picture on Instagram of the presents under the tree. It’s an extreme example and the mother is receiving a social media onslaught of negative comments and parenting criticism.

While I certainly don’t agree with aggressively “shaming” this mother (definitely not a Christ-like response), the article does invite parents to consider gift giving. Just how much is too much?

As someone who is expecting her first baby this January, I’d love to hear about YOUR discussions and decisions related to giving gifts. How do you decide how many gifts to give your kids?
