School's out for the summer! For parents, it can be a challenge to find engaging (and affordable) activities to keep kids busy.

One option for entertainment is to go to the movie theater. More often than not, it can be difficult to find an age appropriate movie. Beyond that, as Christians we are told to be discerning and not conform to the patterns of this world (Romans 12:2).

Here are just a few of the questions you might have:

  • Is my child old enough to handle this movie?
  • What is the overall message that is being conveyed?
  • How much violence and questionable language are in this movie?

To help parents better understand the content in movies, Common Sense Media has put out a Kids’ Summer Movie Guide for 2015. It is described as “a cheat sheet to help you decide which high-profile summer movies are appropriate for you and your kids”. Do you find movie guides like this helpful?

What movies might you take YOUR kids to this summer? How do you discern what movies are appropriate?
