Invite: October 9 - Pastor's Workshop "Nurturing Safe Space: A Dialogue with LGBT Christians"

Please seriously consider attending this workshop that will be held at Woodlawn CRC Ministries Center from 9am to noon. Cost is only $10 at the door and refreshments will be included. Seminary students are invited to attend free of charge. There will be a panel of 4 former or current Christian Reformed Church members who are gay. The intent of this workshop is not to present or advocate for a theological position on this issue. The intent is for all pastors, regardless of their theological position on same sex partnerships, to listen to the experiences of gay Christians in our denomination. Many gay Christians have been damaged spiritually by their interactions with clergy and church leaders. Listening to these stories and being able to ask the panel questions will provide pastors with an opportunity to gain wisdom in pastoral care that heals rather than harms.

We love your comments! Thanks for your help upholding the Community Guidelines to make this an encouraging and respectful community for everyone.

Any chance any of this would be available somehow to people far away?  Broadcast, recording, notes, etc.  I'd understand if you couldn't or it wasn't appropriate, given the personal nature of it.

Blessings on this event,

I can't answer your question regarding this event, but if it's topic of interest for you, there will be a recording made of this free webinar: "Nurturing Generous Spaciousness: A Response to Gay Christians in the Church." It's scheduled for Nov. 28 at 12 noon EDT. The presenter will be Wendy Gritter of New Directions Ministries. For more info and registration visit:

Yes, I had planned to participate in that webinar.  Thanks, Kimberly!

Good idea, Dave. I will see what we can do about that. Wendy Gritter will be providing the overview to our workshop in GR and is also the speaker for the webinar offered by the CRC Network. In addition, we have a panel of 4 current/former CRC members who are gay that will take questions and share their stories of how they were pastored when coming out as gay or lesbian to their CRC communities. It is really going to be, "What does a pastor need to know?" when one of their members comes to them who is gay. Thanks for your suggestion, Sheryl Mulder

Thanks, Sheryl.  Appreciated!
