Safe Church has been blessed this past year with a new position for Safe Church, based in the Canadian CRC offices in Burlington. Miriam Spies has been the first acting, Volunteer and Communications Specialist, working 10 hours/week for Safe Church and 20 hours/week for Disability Concerns. You can find out more about Miriam here, and also see many examples of her excellent writing on The Network by searching her name. She has been a great asset to CRC ministry in many ways.

We are very excited for the next chapter in Miriam’s life (she is too!). We are sad for our loss but happy for her at the same time. Below is a quote from her letter of resignation.

"It is with regret that I formally give notice of resignation as Volunteer and Communications Specialist, Disability Concerns and Safe Church Ministry, effective August 9, 2019. I will be undertaking doctoral studies at Emmanuel College, Toronto School of Theology.

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve the Christian Reformed Church, specifically in Canada, this past year. It has been a privilege to witness how this denomination continues to proclaim God’s kingdom in demonstrating everybody belongs and everybody serves and in ensuring all can worship and live faithfully free from abuse … I pray for blessings on your continued ministry and witness in North America."

So, we say a bittersweet goodbye to Miriam. Thank you, Miriam, for all of your good work and may the Lord bless you in your new endeavors as you continue to follow his leading.

In addition, prayers are requested as the hiring process is underway to find a replacement. Please pray for the Lord’s wisdom, guidance and discernment as the interview team works with the directors of Disability Concerns and Safe Church to select the next Volunteer and Communications Specialist. Thank you.

Dear Miriam:  It was lovely to visit with you during Inspire 2019.  But I had no idea you would be leaving Safe Church when you and your amazing guide dog sat near me at the Safe Church sectional.  I'm sad to see you leave, but so thankful that you are stepping out in faith to earn your PhD.   Your testimony to how God works is well, inspiring!  :)  Blessings to you in your next endeavor!

Miriam, I have been so blessed by your writing and heart for others, especially those who are vulnerable. Your voice is powerful and it is helping change wrong assumptions. Thankful for you!
