During the summer, we give the children's teachers a break and we ask the congregation to sign up for a Sunday during the summer to teach the children (preschool and elementary are combined and currently we don't have any other ages). I prepared the curriculum ahead of time and gave choices as to what lesson they would like to teach. This year has been very successful, new folks have stepped up and it gives the children and adults an opportunity to meet one another.
Every year, at the beginning of the school year, my church holds a "Promotion Sunday" for Sunday School. We do not have enough children to promote to a different class, nor are the adults promoted. So I guess I'm "advertising, promoting" Sunday School as a hold. Instead of calling it Promotion Sunday as we have in the past, I want to advertise it as a Celebration with a potluck breakfast during the Sunday School hour. Any suggestions for activities during this time to bring everyone together and something to entice folks that don't normally come to Sunday School to attend this event?
