Lift Up Your Hearts Accompaniment?

In the past we have used the accompaniments that came with the grey Psalter Hymnal for band instruments for special occasions. Does anyone know if there is anything similar for the Lift Up Your Hearts songbook?

Assumptions about Deacons

Some years ago, the Christian psychologists Henry Cloud and John Townsend published a book called "12 "Christian" Beliefs that can Drive You Crazy." In it they detailed some common beliefs about life and psychological health that people often assume are Biblical. The book was written in the hope that people will critically reflect on these assumptions, and ask themselves if they truly emerge from Scripture. The Diakonia Remixed report, and hopefully the process that is emerging from it, may be an opportunity for us to do the same when it comes to the office of deacon. It is a good time to...

Network Changes?

Just noticed on the BOT report about the changes to the network, that it will no longer be run as a seperate entity...how does this affect how things will be run, posted, etc...I have enjoyed it and want it to continue. I appreciate all the work the various forum leaders and website coordinators have put into it.

What practices or disciplines are helpful when preparing for Communion?

Hello, All, This may have been commented on before, but I was just wondering how various churches who still have quarterly or less frequent communion handle the time of preparation. Do you just read the responsive reading in the Psalter the week before? Have you developed a devotional or "companion to communion" that helps in the process of preperation? One I have recently ran across is Andrew Murray's The Lord's Table. It has a week of devotions for the week prior to communion, for the day of, and for the week following. Other practices/disciplines that you have found helpful?

Is there a central website where those interested in CRC Leadership Development Networks can share best practices?

I am just wondering if there is a central website where those who are interested in CRC Leadership Development Networks can share best practices and the like when it comes to ministry training. I would love to hear updates, celebrations, etc. from those who have felt God's call on their lives to be more involved in ministry.I hear LDNs referred to occasionally, but is there a central online "meetingplace" for those involved?

The Stewardship Thing

Mission isn't optional — it's the proper lens through which to see stewardship. The annual budget is the most missional document in the church. How can we clearly communicate that to the people that we serve?

Bob, It's Time to Engage

Deacons are ordained as leaders — first and foremost as spiritual leaders. That means that their task is not first and foremost about developing better techniques, but first and foremost about seeking to develop transformed souls — within themselves and within those whom they serve.

Training Options for Deacons

The Chalmers Center for Economic Development at Covenant College has as its stated purpose to "Help the Church Help the Poor Help Themselves". As well as several options for those outside the US, it also offers two web-based training modules which are available either in a distance learning format or a self-study format.

Membership Transfers in a Modern Age

Within our history there is a countering truth, that membership is the responsibility of the individual, and they should be encouraged to take an active role in the process. What do you think? Are our current practices adequate?

Looking at Acts 6

Looking at the "deacon chapter" of Acts 6 is interesting, in that I find it to be a place where my cultural assumptions about the diaconate can easily smother what the chapter actually says.
