How should we train our new small groups ministry coordinator?

Our church has just hired a part time ministry coordinator for small groups. We want to equip her as well as possible and have some ideas about training but wonder if there are good ideas out there. What should be on our list of things to have her experience and learn and participate in as she acclimates to the work? Courses? Seminars? Conferences? Thanks! Dave Den Haan

What material would you recommend for men's Bible study?

I'm not sure if this is the correct Forum to post this under; however I'm looking for suggestions for cirriculum/material for Men's Bible Study. Recently we had some groups do the Tony Dungy studies and they enjoyed them. I'm looking to have a few groups start up again after Easter. Any suggestions would be very helpful!

Do you have suggestions for a Small Group study to help teach some basic principles of community?

Hi All, I'm starting to look for a small group study or other resources for six-weeks that would be the starting point for a relaunch for our church's small group ministry. I'm looking for something that would help teach some basic principles of community. Got any ideas? Got anything that worked well (or not so well)? Mike

Can you recommend any good resources for an Easter program for kids primarily in grades 3-6?

I'm looking into having a Sunday School Easter program instead of a Christmas program this year. (There are so many other special activities that occur during the Advent and Christmas season for kids to participate in.) Has anyone else done an Easter program? Can you recommend any good resources for a play for kids primarily in grades 3-6, but possibly including younger and older kids as well?

What's the best way to plan for low and irregular Sunday School attendance?

Our Sunday school has low and irregular attendance (from about one child to eight or more). The leaders are currently using the Kid Connection curriculum, which seems to be a good fit for a small Sunday school. However, not knowing whether two or ten students are going to be there makes planning, even with this curriculum, a challenge and it is disheartening. The leaders asked that I solicit any suggestions or advice. Any thoughts?

Where do you donate your extra Sunday School Curriculum?

I would love to know about organizations or suggestions about where to donate extra incomplete Sunday school curriculum. Often we have extra units that are missing some sessions, or the stickers or story cards are partially used. So, they aren’t complete therefore we won’t use them again next year. But I know there are many churches and countries that CAN use them.

What's a good internet-based method for church backups?

I missed World Backup Day by a bit, but it's always a good day to talk about backups. I'm looking to setup backups for two very different churches: one is a traditional, small town church and the other is a very budget-conscience inner city church. Any backup solution needs to be drop-dead simple, both for the end users and the admin. Clearly free or cheap is also a must for the inner city church. I'm still wading through options like Mozy, Crashplan, Dropbox, etc. I was wondering if anyone else had practical experience with putting an internet-based solution (as opposed to tape backups) into...

Were can I find guidelines and procedures for streaming worship services?

There is a fair amount of material on the web for streaming a worship service. Besides doing a podcast for those who want to listen anytime, we have set a goal for ourselves to be able to audio stream, and possibly video stream the service. I would appreciate some suggestions, guidelines, and/or a procedure on how to set this up. D. Klein http://www.sussexcrc.org/

Can you share your church's social media policy for Youth leaders?

We have an abuse prevention policy at our church, but are realizing that we probably need to add something regarding how we, as a church and specifically youth leaders, use social media in our interactions with our youth. Does anyone out there have a policy regarding this that you can send us and we can use as a whole, or at least springboard from it?

How can youth leaders help "Youth" Become "Young Adults"?

Hello all! I'm a youth leader in Grand Rapids. I'm wondering what your opinions are on helping youth make a transition into adulthood. More specifically, how do we as youth leaders assist students as they mature in their spiritual lives. I guess the reason for my asking this is that, as youth leaders, we often encourage our kids to be wild and wacky in the games we play. Then once they graduate high school they should know to flip the switch and turn into mature adults. What are some techniques/lessons/events you use to help this transition? Thanks, - Mark

Is it healthy for a council led church to have full time staff as a permanent part of council as an elder or deacon?

I have been in full time youth ministry for 8 years and have spent 7 of those as an elder in the churches that I have served. I find it extremely beneficial to my work in the church to be at the council and elders meetings. I should clarify that I am ordained within the local church as an elder and not as a ministry associate or minister of the word. Questions that have been posed: What happens if new ministry staff comes on board? Are they automatically elders? Is it healthy for a council led church to have full time staff as a permanent part of council as an elder or deacon? I know the...

What's the best way to divide responsibilities when it comes to planning services?

Our worship director is going to be stepping down in the not-too-distant future, and I thought I'd see how other churches divvy up responsibilities when it comes to planning services. Do you have a single person identified as a director in some way? Does that person do the bulk of the planning/selecting songs? Does everything happen by a committee? Do you have some mix of the two? Thanks!

What's a good way to organize a special evening of worship?

I am looking at organizing a worship evening once a month (or every other month depending on how it goes) for music. I am envisioning a time for musicians to share their gift and a time for praise led by some of our musicians. I am wondering if anyone else has something like this going on right now in their church, and what words of wisdom might be shared? Thank you! Jennifer Dam

What practices or disciplines are helpful when preparing for Communion?

Hello, All, This may have been commented on before, but I was just wondering how various churches who still have quarterly or less frequent communion handle the time of preparation. Do you just read the responsive reading in the Psalter the week before? Have you developed a devotional or "companion to communion" that helps in the process of preperation? One I have recently ran across is Andrew Murray's The Lord's Table. It has a week of devotions for the week prior to communion, for the day of, and for the week following. Other practices/disciplines that you have found helpful?
