I remember somewhere I was told or taught that in order to have a worship service you need to have at least one elder present. Is this true and why?

Most CRC worship services begin with God's greeting. Does anyone know the origin of this tradition? I have a very hard time using a text out of context to greet the worshippers on a Sunday morning, and just as much difficulty hearing someone speak for God just because they have been ordained. I understand the parting blessing, it has its roots in Numbers 6, but what is the precedent for a "God's Greeting"?

I'm wondering if anyone knows the best way to share original worship music. I've written some songs and I've shared them on my personal website and Facebook, but how do you go about sharing a new worship song to the broader community?

I just heard about this website from a friend of mine at a Presbyterian/community church. I was wondering if anyone has considered this or is actively using it? I'm interested in pros and cons, and value for the cost as well as any general feedback. Because their subscriptions are based on size/number of users, it would be helpful if you could include some information about the size of your church and worship ministry. Planning Center Online Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know if there is a faster way to input scripture passages into PowerPoint than just copying and pasting? I know Easy Worship and Media Shout have Bible software where you pick the passage and it automatically fills it in. I was hoping there was something for PowerPoint, but I haven't found anything...

It is time for us to conduct an evaluation of our Worship Coordinator. Does anyone have a good questionnaire that I can use?

What kinds of simple things do churches do to celebrate Mothers Day and Fathers Day?

It seems that in the relatively rare instances that the Holy Spirit is specifically called out in lyrics, the song tends toward being a prayer that the Spirit would work in some way. Are there songs that you've sung that praise the Spirit for what he HAS done? I'm particularly interested in roughly CCM-genre songs.

Worship is an intergenerational time, but children aren't always fully engaged or included. I'm especially looking for ideas for later elementary and middle school. What's working at your church?

I am planning to create a topical index of the contemporary songs we use in worship, but don't want to "reinvent the wheel." Does anyone know of such an index already created?

Is it possible to have a keyboard, connected to a computer, that would create musical notation from what is played?
I love singing (bass), but I'm not a musician so there is much about music that I don't understand, but which is critical to those who are actually musicians. Our congregation has a praise song book which I maintain, but I'm having a real issue with trying to add new songs since the written music of so many goes on for 4 or 6 pages. I firmly believe that music in a songbook for congregational singing should not exceed 2 pages and that music for these songs could be done this way if the will to do so existed on the part of the musicians and worship leadership, but since I'm not a musician it's...

I haven't found a clear articulation of the following on the CRCNA or Network website. When Synod approves the Ministry Share assessment in June 2011, is the assessment and/or related budget for 2012 based on the active professing members over 18 count as of August 31, 2010 - or August 31, 2011? Timeline: August 31 2010: Submission of Yearbook counts by local congregations January 1, 2011: Ministry Shares approved at Synod 2010 implemented September 2010 - May 2011: CRCNA Ministry agencies sets budgets and BOT arrives at a proposed Ministry Share assessment per active professing member over...

Has anyone used this version of Christianity Explored? We are using it for the first time at Fleetwood CRC in Surrey and are having a great time with it. Session 3 is tonight. Seven people are coming from all over the world--Burma, China, Nepal, Taiwan, Cambodia. Some of them are opening the Bible for the first time. Any advice to give us?

I recently discovered that the local Rotary Club in extremely influential in my community for networking and developing support for ministry and local projects. I've also been encountered with the possibility of being welcomed in as a member since in many ways I'm the "CEO" type figure of a local non-profit organization, our fledgling church plant. I know our stance regarding lodge membership, but I've never heard anything specifically about the Rotary. If I were to be offered membership into the Rotary, would I be crossing a line that has been historically seen as off-limits or a violation...

I just a got question from a co-worker who is assisting a church in Colorado. Can you provide a recommendation for retreat speakers or facilitators? They would rather get a recommendation from another church than dive into the process blindly when they plan their next retreat. Can you help?

Any ideas? Our church has paid off our mortgage--yay! They've asked the youth group to come up with a creative (symbolic) way to destroy the mortgage letter at a celebration this Sunday. I missed my opportunity to survey the YG and wonder if anyone has some great ideas on how to do this? We'll be in the Fellowship Hall after the service (indoors)... Burning was suggested--not sure what that would look like. Any ideas?

The fifth bullet of the second point in the Belhar states: "that this unity can be established only in freedom and not under constraint;" I am wondering from a theological viewpoint whether this statement is Biblical? It seems to say that God cannot unify under constraint? Or maybe it is we humans who cannot unify under constraint? In either case it seems to me that we are limiting God, either working through His people to unify or directly himself. What am I missing? I think I would be OK if the phrasing said that we must strive to establish this unity in freedom and not under constraint,...

Our church is in the planning stages of forming a non-profit organization to minister to homeless in our community. We will take up residence at a local motel. We need to formulate a training program for our volunteers. We also need to develop a safety policies. Not wanting to reinvent the wheel, does anyone have access to share an existing program fir either area with us? We would use as a reference and tailor to our specific ministry. Thanks!

In June, our congregation will elect new elders and deacons. As deacons, we have recently begun talking about ways to effective transition the tasks of retiring deacons to those who remain and those who will be joining, and to orient the new deacons to the office and its responsibilities. Rather than trying to continue going it alone, we were hoping that some folks out here on the network would have some good ideas on how to do transition and orientation effectively.

I'm a church planter in an area with Army, Air Force, and Navy installations. Recently connected with a new couple that just moved here. They're not Reformed, but told me they had developed a relationship with a chaplain at their last post (Fort Hood) who they thought had attended CTS. This chaplain was re-assigned about the same time they were, and I believe is now in the Washington DC area. I am wondering if there's a way to find out which Army chaplains are affiliated with the CRC? Is there a list somewhere that I can look up? Someone I can contact in GR?
