Many churches are wrestling with the changes that technology brings. One aspect of church life that may be impacted is office hours for Pastors. Has your church struggled to define office hours?
We have had a non-CRC pastor (fully ordained with masters of divinity, cleared by classis, and submitting to our classically appointed councilor) helping us out. A member suggested that it is improper for this pastor to raise his hands during blessings or benedictions...
I realized this was a challenge for churches when I saw the large role expectations played in the relationship between pastors and churches, particularly when stated expectations were not met, but even more so when unstated expectations were not.
It’s a small thing to do for a large sacrifice that they made (and may still be making) for us. Please take time on this Veterans Day / Remembrance Day (Nov. 11) or on the Sunday before it (Nov 10) to say thank you to those who have served or are serving.
What will be the pension for each if these Pastors when they turn 67 in five years?
I'd love to learn from or learn with leaders that have navigated (or are navigating, or even just considering) the significant shift from a traditional CRC structure/culture, to one that employs the "missional communities" model.
As fellow Christians, we join in the despair of our brothers and sisters, but we also have the opportunity to be a great beacon of hope. We have the humbling task of offering hope and comfort, in the name of the Great Comforter, to those in Christ’s body who are suffering.
Back in 2000, my wife Sandy and I moved from Michigan to Canada to pastor Neerlandia CRC. Now we have accepted a call back in west Michigan, and I can see the headaches and hassles on the horizon. Any advice or resources on the following issues would be most welcome!
