Building Church Leaders

This site takes a broader look at church leadership. Those involved in church leadership on a variety of fronts will find valuable samples, downloads, training tools, and opportunities to connect with other leaders. Small Group leaders will especially like the tab, "Mentor and Disciple."

God's Counter-cultural Call

I’m concerned with developing small groups of people who covenant to a shared life together as they grow in Christlikeness and join God’s mission together.  That leaves me with this question. How do we establish counter-cultural groups in a culturally relevant way?

Time to Redesign?

At least twice a year, those who lead small group ministries need to ask, “What are the next steps for this small group ministry? Where is God leading us?” If you don’t, chances are you’ll become stuck and ineffective.

First Steps on Bisbee Drive

We would love to form a neighborhood small group where everyone on our block knows each other well, joins in spiritual conversations, prays for one another, and finds ways to serve in our community together. It’s a wonderful dream that we talk about often. The problem is, we don’t know our neighbors!

Reality Check

Secondly, I need to remember that part of developing a disciple-making, mission-shaped small group ministry means offering safe places for those who find themselves needing extra support as they go rough patches in life.

Things I Learned from my Mother

Relationships began to be built and conversations were broadened. Because these strangers were included, they began to feel a sense of belonging and experienced a bit of “the communion of the saints.”

Where Do We Start?

It’s exciting to start something new. Our imaginations start imagining and we are so excited at the potential of this new endeavor. Wise people ask questions of those who are a step ahead of them, collect information from books, search the web and pray a lot. And then they pray some more. Before launching a new small group ministry, it’s important to take enough time to set a firm foundation for the ministry. There are four initial questions to answer before starting a small group ministry. What’s the purpose of our church’s small group ministry? Answering this question is essential to a...

Do you have suggestions for a Small Group study to help teach some basic principles of community?

Hi All, I'm starting to look for a small group study or other resources for six-weeks that would be the starting point for a relaunch for our church's small group ministry. I'm looking for something that would help teach some basic principles of community. Got any ideas? Got anything that worked well (or not so well)? Mike

Congregational Survey

I am in the process of (re)launching a small groups ministry in October in a church with 500+ members. At the moment I am working on writing a congregational survey to get a sense what the formatting and style of the small groups program should be.

What material would you recommend for men's Bible study?

I'm not sure if this is the correct Forum to post this under; however I'm looking for suggestions for cirriculum/material for Men's Bible Study. Recently we had some groups do the Tony Dungy studies and they enjoyed them. I'm looking to have a few groups start up again after Easter. Any suggestions would be very helpful!
