I'm concerned that the video introducing "network" didn't mention anything about confidentiality. Is there a good way to address the issue of confidentiality, while still making this site useful for such sensitive situations?
Within our history there is a countering truth, that membership is the responsibility of the individual, and they should be encouraged to take an active role in the process. What do you think? Are our current practices adequate?
It is suggested that we give our pastors a sabbatical for a time of refreshment and study. What about the ministry leaders such as Cadet and Gems counselors, youth group leaders, Bible study leaders, Sunday School teachers, etc?
I am interested in hearing from elders (and education committees!) on how they have implemented theological and biblical education for adults within their churches. What have you taught? How have you promoted it?
How have some of you cared for members in similar circumstances?
I'd love to be part of an ongoing discussion regarding congregation relational health that includes but is not limited to pastor/staff church relationships.
Would it be possible to create something like a "covenant membership" with those who for one reason or another cannot become full member of our churches so that they can vote and be in leadership?
I'm curious. Have any of you as elders prayed over someone, anointed them with oil and as a result, they were healed? If so, what was it like?
In our 70+ year old church we are engaged in a bit of research into the differing and dominant theological streams of thought within the CRC. Our pastor, Tom Kok, stated that there is a pamphlet that outlines the three major streams and I'm trying to locate it.
Has anyone had discussions about Dr. Wane Dyer’s material? Is there an element of truth with a lot of wrong understanding? Or is the whole thing ‘out ta lunch’?
This space is for you. Ask your question. Make your request. Wonder out loud. Start the conversations.
How many of the CRCs in NA can say that their elders are doing a fantastic job of consistently caring for the people they are assigned to shepherd in their "district"? Are your elders making visits?
For churches who are interested in helpful guidelines and a process to use in handling conflict in your congregation, Pastor-Church Relations would like to suggest the following documents.
Today's pew-sitting Christian Reformed member knows a good sermon when they hear one. Whenever they asked that question about poor preaching, they subsequently wonder whether Calvin Seminary is to blame.
Ministers are teaching elders, theologically trained and spiritually astute. Should we set a higher standard for the kinds of elders we appoint or elect?
Our church leaders are wanting to listen better to the needs of our people in the church community specifically focusing on spiritual growth.
Our council recently received a baptism request from a "long distance" member that attends a church in a nearby town (that believes in infant dedications instead of baptisms). Any advice?
As pastors and church councils know, obstructionists can do great damage in a church. Here's how to work toward the discipline of holy complaint.
Elders and deacons sometimes enter their work with great eagerness but little awareness of what they are supposed to do. What comes next? Frustration.
The church does a great job embracing the poor, the downtrodden, refugees, the homeless. But we haven't quite figured out how to minister to those who are wealthy.
I've been wanting elders and deacons to weigh in on this question: What do you wish you had known when you were first installed in office?
I recently received an email from an office bearer who was heading into a council meeting; the third meeting devoted to a particularly thorny issue. What would you say to her?
