Saying “no thanks” to the invitation to adopt the Belhar would be, in my mind, missing out on a tremendous opportunity to enable us to be the diverse family God has called us to be.

The Belhar Confession should be adopted by the CRCNA as a declaration or testimony, not as a Form of Unity equal to the Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, and Canons of Dordt, our basic doctrinal standards. There are several decisive reasons.
Before Jesus went to the cross for us. He prayed that we would become perfectly one with each other, with the Father and with Himself. So what kind of unity are we talking about here? or what kind of unity is Jesus praying for?
Sphere sovereignty is the idea that the various God-created societal structures are directly accountable to God in their “sphere.” When one societal structure meddles in the affairs of another it is violating “sphere sovereignty” and preventing the God-ordained operation and accountability of the particular sphere.
