Donna Hanchett

About Me:
My husband and I were missionaries in Spain for twelve years, and in Canada for one year. We joined the CRC in Wappingers Falls, NY when we returned from Spain in 2009. Then when we went to Toronto to serve with our mission, Liebenzell USA, we attended the Willowdale CRC. Our role with the mission in Canada was to serve as pastoral care for a group of young internationals who came to Canada to serve in various ministries for one year. I also volunteered at a faith-based house for refugee claimants and at a weekly community dinner for the homeless and marginalized in Toronto, which was a church-sponsored (not by Willowdale) ministry. We have recently relocated to Greenville, SC. Having found that there is no CRC in the area, we will soon be joining a Presbyterian church. But, with two kids attending Calvin College, we will continue to follow the CRC.
Interests:
I enjoy knitting and other types of needlework. Having joined a wome's group while living in Spain, I took classes to learn some of their indigenous needle arts. I also read quite a bit and spend way too much time on Facebook. One of my passions would be working with young internationals, whether they are students, volunteers, MKs, or even refugees. And I love to cook and to teach Bible studies and my practical hobbies to willing learners.
  • This is an excellent way to support missions! When I was a missionary on the field, I would have really appreciated a team emphasis by supporting churches rather than the pressure of being focused...

  • This is a broad topic that deserves our attention. There truly are many people around us dealing with a deep sense of shame in their personal lives. Anyone who grew up with any type of abuse in...

  • There is a wonderful new series of studies for women that our women's group is doing by Nancy Guthrie, called "seeing Jesus in the Old Testament. So far there are three 10-week studies. The first...

  • For twelve years my husband and I served as missionaries to Spain. If we were still there, I would be encouraging my evangelical friends to take advantage of this little window in which the new...

  • I have appreciated all the links given both in the blog and in the comments. It will be interesting to see how Francis's Jesuit background influences his papacy and his relationship with...

  • You could also include immigrants, whether documented or undocumented in the "Samaria" group. I'm looking forward to the "Welcoming the Stranger" webinar next week!

  • Hi! I love reading from the network every week, and also participating in some of the webinars!

  • Excellent post! We must think biblically in every aspect of life, and welcome, as Jesus would, the foreigner in our midst. From what I understand many refugees are such because of their Christian...

  • One more thing that really has impressed me in the Reformed churches that I have attended is the depth of understanding of the doctrines of the church among the general church members. This is...
