Time to Reform Christmas by Unblending or Disentangling?
Many Christians have become increasingly uncomfortable with the way Christmas is celebrated, both by Christians and non-Christians. What do YOU think?
I am retired and in the third year of service as an elder. Was a delegate to Synod 2013 and appointed Sergeant at Arms. Am an alumnus of Calvin College, class of '65, and taught German there for 4 years. I returned to the CRC fold after living many years in areas without a nearby CR congregation -- Springfield IL and Jefferson City MO. Was elected to Session (church council) at First Presyterian Church in Springfield, the Abraham Lincoln Family Church with its LIncoln family pew. My second career - after college-level teaching, involved many years as a legislative liaison, public policy analyst/research, and governmental relationship specialist in both public and private sectors.
Many and varied. Am writing personal memoirs.

Would you please provide us with a recent, real-life example or two of contextualization and how "political power" and "partisan politics" were avoided in achieving the goal of following Christ? ...

Ken, lest their be some misunderstanding, my reference to "racially insensitive" pertained to the President's remarks in last week's White House meeting, not to your contribution to this...
Thank God for the many "Christlike acts" of financial contributions for services to the people of Haiti, such as you describe. Many private citizens have done so, and continue to do so, for years...
Has anyone in the CRC, in The Banner or other Christian publication published an exposition of "The New Normal" since the advent of Donald J. Trump in the public arena? Our president has been...
We do not have to rely on "alleged" comments made in closed meetings, where there is no audio or video record of transactions. In the case of President Trump, we have ample record of statements...
There seems to be much confusion regarding the meeting in question. The latest news is that two Senators and a cabinet secretary now say that the president did not say what was originally...
Doug -- Three questions:
(1) Why not extend your commentary to include the next two verses, Romans 13:5-7 ?
(2) Given the vast differences between the cultural context in the First...
