Why I'm Excited for Synod

I have this sense that among young leaders there is a growing attitude rejecting traditional forms of church governance. A lot of us have a hard time with the idea that the decisions made by this binational gathering will have any helpful impact on the day to day work of the Kingdom of God. At the same time, some of these young leaders have started a hashtag #crcgroundswell looking for stories of God’s Holy Spirit at work in our churches...

Do you have suggestions for getting campus ministry on the campus when space and rules get in the way?

One of the things that has surprised me these last couple of months is the wide variety of space limitations that we face as campus ministries. For instance, here at MSU, in order to host any event on campus, we first needed to gain recognition as a Registered Student Organization (a process which involved writing a constitution that matched MSU's requirements, setting up financial accounts at the university, and more than a few headaches). What does a newcomer need to get started with campus ministry?

As a newcomer to the world of campus ministry, both personally and as an organization, the sheer scope of campus ministry can be overwhelming. Our ministry, Campus Edge Fellowship, works with graduate students and faculty of Michigan State University. Where does one begin? The University is home to some 10,000+ graduate students, many of whom are convinced that there is nothing more important than studying for their comprehensive exams. When you add the faculty component, all of whom are busy with research, books, and their personal lives at home, the task of reaching out seems a daunting one...
